My first soccer game

June 10th, 2008

Last night I had diner with some friends, and watched the Italian vs. Netherlands soccer game. It was a horrible game. The Italian team played horribly. It was quite dramatic. I learned a lot of vocabulary that I probably shouldn’t use! I was smiling at one point, because I could not believe that another goal had been scored…..and I got yelled at! There were a lot of angry faces, and a lot of smoke. It was devastating to be in the room when Italy lost.

It has been raining uncontrollably here, at least once a day. I try to be indoors when it happens, but sometimes it is unstoppable.

I regularly get my lunch at the mercato centrale, I usually eat on the steps and watch people. It is a very exciting place, filled with many different peoples, and activities. But now it is back to work for me! I cant believe that I will be working in just a few weeks! I am very excited to start, though I still do not know exactly what I’ll be doing!

I am learning Italian quickly now. But the more I learn, the more I realize that I dont know anything. I learn one word or phrase at a time, and then I hear it all the time, and it also helps me to pick up new phrases and new words. The dialect in Tuscana is hard for me, they pronounce their hard k sound softly, and it is often hard to pick up what they are saying!

I am finding out that in Italy, not very many people speak english! The easiest people to meet do, but once you get into meeting more people, they do not speak english. And when people in Italy say that they do not speak english…they dont really mean it. They can say alot of phrases, words, and they understand alot, they just dont like sounding stupid because they dont know it fluently.

They take their soccer seriously there. Pretty cool experience, you sure you won;t blog those choice words?

Also, be happy for the rain, it has been 100 degrees here for the last 3 or 4 days, and it is absolutely miserable.

Can I ask though - how did you get this picked up and into google news?

Very impressive, is it something that is just up to Google or you actively created?

Obviously this is a popular blog with great data so well done on your seo success..
